Mr. P.S. Veeraraghavan is presently the Director of ISRO Inertial Systems Unit, Department of Space, Govt. of India. After assuming the charges of the Directorship of IISU in July 2002, he is responsible for inertial guidance and related packages development for ISRO's launch vehicles and spacecrafts.
After his post graduation in Electrical and Electronics Instrumentation from IIT, Chennai, Shri Veeraraghavan joined ISRO in 1971 in the erstwhile SLV-3 Project as Engineer-in-charge for Checkout System Development. He was responsible for the design/development of computerized checkout system for SLV-3 Project.
Mr. Veeraraghavan has made significant contributions in the integration and checkout of ISRO's Launch Vehicles. As Deputy Director, Mechanisms and Vehicle Integration & Testing, he was responsible for guiding a team of nearly 500 Technicians, Engineers & supporting staff in the assembly, integration and checkout of ISRO's Launch vehicles PSLV & GSLV. PSLV & GSLV checkout systems are unique in nature and the Launch Pad is situated 6 km. away from the Launch Control Centre (LCC) and the operations of checkout and launch, etc. are carried out remotely through fibre optic data link.
Shri Veeraraghavan has taken training in CNES, France, in Diamant launching in 1971-72 and visited the major space centers in Japan, U.S.A . and France.
Shri Veeraraghavan is the recipient of the prestigious VASVIK Award for 1999 (Electronics) and is the active member of various professional bodies such as Aeronautical Society of India, Astronautical Society of India, Indian National Society for Aerospace & Related Mechanisms, etc. |
