Dr P Sivasankaran Nair was born on August 26, 1944
in Alluva. He received his Doctorate in 1975 from Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore for his research in Vibration and Aero-elasticity. He joined ISRO
Satellite Centre, Bangalore in 1973 associated himself with the design analysis
and development of spacecraft structure for the first Indian satellite,
Aryabhata.
As Group Director, Structures, Dr Nair is actively involved in research and
development of spacecraft structures. He has successfully designed and
developed structures for all ISRO satellites. He also led the team responsible
for the realization of composite spacecraft structure for advanced
communication and more sensing satellites resulting in significant mass
reduction but with high dimensional stability and agility of the space
platforms.
Dr Nair has carried out extensive research and development in structural
dynamics and established capabilities for prediction of acoustic response of
sandwich structural assemblies, using statistical energy analysis techniques
and development of smart Structures for shape and vibration control. He was the
Project Director of INSAT-3B satellite and GSAT-1, which incorporated several
new technologies.
Dr Nair has more than 50 technical publications and five patents to his credit.
Dr P Sivasankaran ` is presented the ASI Award for the year 2000 in recognition
of his significant contribution to Spacecraft and Related Technologies.
