Dr. K Prabhakara Rao was born on October 14, 1949.
He received his Doctorate in Aircraft Structure from Imperial College of
London, UK in 1969. He joined Hindustan Aeronautics, Bangalore, in 1964
and worked on the design of aircraft including fighter aircraft. Later, he
joined the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1969 as an Assistant
Professor.
Dr. Rao has made significant contribution to the area of Rocket Technology in
general and the area of Design, Analysis and Testing of Aerospace structures,
in particular. He has been closely associated with the design of various
structural elements for Indian satellite launch vehicles, PLLV and GSLV like,
motor casings, composite parts, tankages and heat shields. He was also the
Convener of ISRO-IISc Space Technology development pertaining to launch vehicle
and spacecraft were initiated at this Cell. He has been the main consultant for
the structural design and analysis of composite structures for the indigenously
built HANSA and light combat aircraft.
Dr. Rao has over 100 technical publications to his credit and is recipient of
the Khosla Research Gold Medal of Rourkee University in 1975.
Dr. K Prabhakara Rao is presented the ASI award for the year 1999 for his
outstanding contributions in the area of Rocket & Related Technologies. |
