Dr Narayanaswamy Ramani was born on July 22, 1942
in Villupuram, Tamilnadu. He received his Doctorate In Engineering from Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1973.
Joining ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore (ISAC) in 1973 as Head, Computers
Division, Dr Ramani was mainly responsible for establishment and development of
the central computing facility. He contributed significantly to the software
requirements of early Indian satellite missions like Aryabhata, Bhaskara,
Rohini, APPLE, SROSS and IRS. As Group Director, Computer Information Group, he
led the design, development, testing and implementation of software for real
time health monitoring and control of satellites. He was responsible for the
present state of advancement of the computer facilities at ISAC and under his
guidance, this facility has remained updated and in tune with advances in
Computers, Graphics and networking worldover. He led a software team
responsible for providing user training, programming consultancy, management,
maintenance and operations of a unique round the clock facility for satellite
design and development.
Dr Ramani has eight technical publications to his credit.
Dr Narayanaswamy Ramani is presented the ASI Award for the year 1999 in
recognition of his significant contribution to Space Systems Management.
