Dr K L Majumder was born on January 2, 1945. He
obtained his Doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1976
for his research in Interval Analysis. He joined Space Applications Centre,
Ahmedabad (SAC) in 1974 and since the first experimental remote sensing
mission, Bhaskara-1, he has been working on Image Processing, Pattern
Recognition and Data Products Software development for aerial and space-borne
remote sensing.
Dr Majumder has particularly contributed to the improvement of geometric
quality of IRS data products using pseudo-orbit modeling and ground control
points. As Associate Project Director, IRS, he is responsible for the
definition of data products and the development of associated software for IRS
programme. He has successfully migrated the data product generation from work
station to the Pc platform.
Dr Majumder is presently involved in research and development in pattern
recognition, image registration, digital photogrammetry, expert systems and
data processing of Synthetic Aperture Radar. He is the team leader for the
development of indigenous GIS package.
Dr Majumder has 60 technical publications and he is recipient of PARAM award of
C-DAC, Pune.
Dr K L Majumder is presented the ASI Award for the year 1999 in recognition of
his significant contribution to space Science and Applications.
