Dr V S Iyengar was born on August 28, 1940 in
kanchipuram. He received his Doctorate in the of High Energy Astrophysics from
the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. After working in TIFR, he
joined ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore, in 1976 to work as an expert in the
areas of mission analysis and operation of Indian satellites.
Dr Iyengar moved to Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, in 1984, to
lead the team that designed and developed the Very High Resolution Radiometer
(VHRR) for the INSAT-2 satellite series. He also contributed to research and
development of optics that resulted in the realisation of cameras of IRS-IC and
IRS-ID satellites.
As Deputy Director, Sensors Development Area at SAC, Dr Iyengar pursued the
design and development of imaging payloads for IRS and INSAT satellites.
Dr. Iyengar has published more than 50 technical publications in International
journals and Conferences.
Dr V S Iyengar is presented the ASI Award for the year 1999 in recognition of
his significant contribution to Spacecraft and Related Technologies.
