Dr H O Gautam was born on November 14, 1943. He received his Doctorate from Delhi University in 1971 for his research in Millimeter Wave Propagation in Gaseous Media. He joined Space Applications Cenre, Ahmedabad in 1971 to work in satellite communications. he led the first millimeter wave propagation experiment conducted by ISRO, using the ATS-6 satellite of United States.

Dr Gautam was the key person in the development of communication payloads and establishment of a facilities for realisation of communication payloads for the INSAT-2 satellites. He led the team involved in the design, development and realization of the first high power Ku-band transponder. He was also responsible for the development of antennae, MUX and DEMUX and low noise receivers.

At present, Dr Gautam is the Associate Program me Director of GEOSAT, responsible for the realization of the communication payloads for INSAT and G-SAT series of satellites. He is associated with the advance planning of INSAT-4A and GSAT-3 and he is presently developing high-power communication payloads.

Dr Gautam has about 50 technical publications to his credit.

Dr H O Gautam is presented the ASI Award for the year 2000 in recognition of his significant contribution to Spacecraft and Related Technologies.
