Mr Arup Ranjan Dasgupta was born on April 1, 1945
in Kolkata. He received his Post Graduate Degree in Electrical Communication
Engineering in 1970 from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He Joined
the Electronic Systems Division of Space Applications Centre (SAC) in 1970. He
worked in the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) contributing
to the design of rugged television receivers installed in rural and remote
areas under the SITE. As Project Leader, he led the planning, execution and
evaluation of deployment, operations and maintenance of Direct Reception
Television sets.
Mr Dasgupta was involved in the organization and management of remote sensing
applications contributing to conceptualization, systems studies, design and
implementation of natural resources development systems based on remote sensing
and GIS technologies. His team was responsible for the Group Director and
later, Deputy Director, Image processing and Data Products group, is
responsible for guiding several major activities in remote sensing
applications, especially in the development of image processing systems,
satellite photogrammetry and generation of digital terrain models.
Mr Dasagupta is also Associate Programme Director for the GRAMSAT that involves
the use of satellite communication technologies for distance learning,
telemedicine and information networking. He has operationalised the INSAT
mobile satellite service system.
Mr Dasagupta has nearly 50 technical publications to his credit.
Mr Arup Ranjan Dasagupta is presented the ASI Award for the year 2000 in
recognition of his significant contribution to Space Science and Applications.
